Programme & Badges
Your Rainbows Journey
At Rainbows we work towards special badges and awards by doing a variety of activities during unit meetings. You can also work on certain badges at home. We offer trips and special events for extra fun and adventure.
The Rainbows Programme is split into 6 themes which stay consistent all the way from Rainbows, through Brownies and Guides to Rangers! These themes offer a balanced and varied programme. Trying different things is fun and exciting, offering girls a great range of experiences.
Programme Themes

Be Well
Look after yourself, stay healthy and learn how to help others when they’re hurt.
Take Action
Make a positive difference, whether in our community, the wider world, or with the people you know.
Skills For My Future
Learn new things. Investigate what you might like to do in the future and how you can grow your life skills.
Programme Badges & Awards
There are 3 types of Rainbows programme badges and they come in the colours of 6 different themes.
Interest badges, the round ones, are about your interests, hobbies and passions. There are 12 different Rainbows Interest badges, 2 from each theme. You can do Interest badges at home. If you have a badge book, it contains the activities and the requirements for each badge. Challenge yourself to earn as many as possible.
Skills Builder badges, the hexagons, are earned when you take part in a selection of activities, on the same topic, over several weeks at Rainbows. There are 2 different topics for each theme. Skills Builder activities are done by everyone in your group at the same time. We progressively work through the 6 different themes over your time at Rainbows.
Theme Awards, the shields, show that you have completed an Interest badge, Skills Builder badge and taken part in enough other qualifying unit meeting activities all from the same theme. Take a look at the 6 different themes below.
Every Theme you complete is one step closer to the coveted Gold Award badge for earning all 6 Theme Awards. To encourage you on your way, there is a Bronze Award for 2 Themes, and a Silver Award for 4 Themes.
Fun Badges
You can earn these for all sorts of reasons. Maybe you’ve gone on a trip, celebrated an occasion or taken part in an event.
There are also challenge badges, both our home-grown and from other units, with fun and games that extend the excitement in all sorts of ways.
Pot of Gold
At the end of your Rainbows journey it’s time for your Pot of Gold.
When a Rainbow reaches 7 years they can move to Brownies and start a new chapter in their Girlguiding adventure.
You’ll receive a Pot of Gold badge to show the completion of your Rainbows story.
