Out in the Sticks for Earth Day

What better way to mark Earth Day than to head outside. This year we visited the Girlguiding Kent East Mystole campsite for a day of ‘off-grid’ fun.

During the day we learned about the secretes of survival, fire, water, shelter. We created water purifiers to show how charcoal can be used, alongside boiling, to filter water.

Staying safe outside is very important but if an accident were to happen, we investigated improvising with first aid out in the field. We tried using a striker to light a fire, and enjoyed s’mores around campfire.

In the afternoon we tried out our semaphore game and created working wind turbines.
